Ultrasonic Inspection

RICI MAAZ performs manual and automated ultrasonic NDT inspection of anything ranging from components to welds and castings. RICI MAAZ as third party inspection also offer P-scan, ToFD (time of flight diffraction) and PAUT (phased array).

Ultrasonic testing is our specialty, and RICI MAAZ can deliver anything from standard manual inspections with standard equipment to highly advanced automated Phased Array scanners. Furthermore, we customize and adapt our equipment to focus on the customers need to find defects such as cracks and corrosion.

The P-scan stack system can be applied for various NDT inspection jobs, providing a clear visualization and reliable data.

Magnetic particle testing (MT)

Magnetic particle testing (MT) is based on the use of a magnetic field and magnetic particles and used on objects with high permeability such as carbon steel. It is mainly used to detect surface or subsurface cracks during fabrication or in-service inspections of castings, welds or forges.

Magnetic particle testing is a highly reliable and sensitive inspection technique.

Liquid Penetrant testing (PT)

Liquid penetrant testing (PT) is an NDT method that is excellent to detect surface breaking flaws. A bright red dye is applied to the surface before being cleaned and thereafter being painted with a white developer. This allows it to penetrate into any flaws (which draws out the red dye), making it much easier to detect with the naked eye. We typically use this technique for detecting:

  • Cracks
  • Pin holes in welds
  • Fractures
  • Seams
  • Welding imperfections
  • Radiography

  • Inspect material of varying density and composition
  • Inspect assembled and in-service components
  • Be performed with minimum surface preparation
  • Detect both surface and subsurface defects
  • Deliver a permanent record of the inspection

    Visual testing

    Visual testing is a standard NDT inspection technique. It is commonly used to detect flaws and irregularities during construction and welding. We look at cues that may reveal fatigue or other degradation that may have happened.

    Eddy current testing (ET)

    Eddy Current Testing (ET) is mainly used for surface crack detection on metallic materials, but also to detect corrosion on thin materials. The main advantage compared to MT and PT, which also detect surface cracks, is that it can test trough 1-2mm of coating. Eddy Current is a highly sensitive tool that provides quick results with minimum preparation.

    In certain cases, we have developed probes and techniques that detect defects trough up to 10mm coating.

    Leak testing

    Leak testing is an NDT method is often used to inspect pressure vessels or vacuum systems. We offer a variety of leak tests, suited to the task at hand. Vacuum and helium leak testing are the most common.

    Post weld heat treatment (PWHT)

    RICI is specialized as third party inspection in PWHT for the steel and metal fabrication industries including the construction of pressure vessels, pressure piping, storage tanks, buildings, bridges, offshore platforms, power plants, oil and gas refineries, and petrochemical plants.

    There is often a mandatory requirement for PWHT due to compliance with welding codes and specifications on certain materials including but not limited to carbon steels, stainless/high alloy steels and work hardened steels. There may also be PWHT requirements based on the wall thickness of the parts being welded together.

    Holiday Detection

    The holiday detector is also known as a porosity detector, pinhole tester, spark tester, jeep tester or jeeper. RICI MAAZ provides the services to our client as third party inspector to detect and location of pinholes, holidays, bare spots or thin points in protective coatings applied for corrosion protection over metal or concrete (conductive) surfaces. Holiday detectors are suitable for production pipeline coating operations, tank work and structures.

    Positive Material Identification

    RICI MAAZ provides the services of Positive Material Identification (PMI) are the analysis of a metallic alloy to establish composition by reading the quantities by percentage of its constituent elements. Positive provides alloy chemistry and grade ID information in seconds using a hand-held scanner.

    PMI is also commonly used to ensure:

  • The composition of the parent material is correct
  • The correct filler material was used during equipment repair
  • Typical methods for PMI include X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and optical emission spectrometry (OES). We conduct PMI on welding and piping products with our portable handheld battery operated Ferrite testers.

    Ferritic test

    Ferrite content analysis is a non-destructive testing method which provides critical data for austenitic stainless steel and duplex materials, RICI provides third party inspection services to perform proper ferrite testing, both a minimum material thickness and a minimum specimen size are required. Test results are interpreted in accordance with current specifications and/or customer requirements. RICI MAAZ as third party inspection services issued reports are accompanied when necessary by drawings to identify locations tested.

    Infrared Inspections

    Infrared inspections (IR) provide thermal images of equipment using high-resolution imaging devices with video and still photography capabilities. With infrared imaging, components can be monitored in real-time, meaning thermal changes can be identified simultaneously as changes occur in:

  • Process
  • Pressure
  • Load
  • Temperature
  • In testing with Defectovision IR, the part to be tested goes through an induction coil and is heated on the surface at the same time. Four infrared cameras detect the resulting temperature distribution of the material. At exposed defects, a local temperature increase occurs with amplitude that depends on the size of the material defect. The digital data is evaluated by the test electronics, which determines the precise position and category of the defects fully automatically.
